Enjoy Stand-up Paddleboarding at Your Favorite Meritage Collection Resorts
One of the best parts of a beach resort vacation is the endless recreational activities, including the increasingly popular pursuit of stand-up paddleboarding. Meritage Collection luxury resorts including Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa, Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach, the new Paséa Hotel & Spa opening in Huntington Beach, Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara, and the Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort in Kauai all offer SUP on site or nearby so that guests can take full advantage of the beautiful Pacific Ocean.
“We have an onsite company called Bacara Adventures,” says Anne Elcon, director of marketing and communications for Bacara Resort & Spa. “They offer surfing, SUP, mountain biking, kayaking, beach cruisers and more. Guests can arrange through the concierge desk and enjoy either the lesson or rentals at the beach located right in front of Bacara called Haskell’s Beach.”
“La Jolla Shores is a great place to SUP,” adds Dana Flower, marketing manager for Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa and Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort. “It’s less than 10 minutes from Estancia and offers gentle waves, views of the La Jolla cliffs, cove and caves, and a chance to see leopard sharks, seals and bright orange garibaldi fish.”
La Jolla visitors can rent paddleboards at the conveniently located Surf Diva, which also offers lessons.
Likewise, Kauai offers amazing opportunities to paddleboard.
“Ko’a Kea rents SUP equipment on site at the beach directly next to the hotel,” Flower says. “Poipu Beach is a nice place to paddle out. Guests will paddle over reefs popular for snorkeling and spot tropical fish, sea turtles and endangered Hawaiian monk seals. There are also a couple of good surf breaks nearby for paddleboarders who enjoy riding the waves in.”
Guests at the Balboa Bay Resort—the city’s only full-service waterfront resort—can also rent paddleboards on site and enjoy exploring picturesque Newport Bay, the largest recreational harbor on the West Coast.
