Poipu Beach

Hawaii’s fourth largest island and aptly nicknamed the Garden Isle, Kauai is treasured for its 550 square miles of lush tropical greenery and sparkling sand beaches. Draped in emerald valleys and jagged cliffs, visitors to the island are attracted to its spectacular scenery and diversity of cultures, activities, and dining. Located on the south coast of Kauai, Poipu Beach is blanketed with white sand and is known around the world as a premier destination for diving, surfing, and snorkeling.

Heralded as “America’s Best Beach” by the Travel Channel, Poipu Beach is conveniently located near some of Kauai’s best shopping, dining, and golf, and known as one of the most popular and safest beaches on the island. The inviting waters of Poipu are popular with marine life, as well. Humpback whales can be frequently seen spouting offshore from December through May, while large honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) commonly swim in these waters. Yet, Poipu Beach is most famous for the endangered monk seals that sunbathe on the sparkling shore and swim in the pristine Hawaiian waters.

With the largest proportion of sandy beach to coastline of any Hawaiian island and year-round warm waters, it’s no wonder water sports top the list of favorite Kauai activities. Snorkeling in Poipu showcases a variety of vibrantly colorful fish, including the state fish, the humuhumunukunukuapuaa. Away from the spectacular shore, this tropical paradise contains an undeniable allure, rooted in its laid-back atmosphere and rich culture.
